Lucky Escape
Good news from the world of conventional science suggests this won’t be the last Halloween to enjoy spooky fun and look for visitors from other worlds.
NASA has confirmed that a large asteroid, 2015 TB145, on a very unpredictable orbit is now predicted to pass close by the Earth without striking us. The distances – it’s predicted to miss the Earth by 300,000 miles – sound enormous, but in space terms that’s a very near miss. It will come even closer to the Moon on Halloween night though, and should inspire plenty of sky watchers to be gazing upwards – perhaps they’ll catch something else in their lenses and view finders.
